Spell Jar Necklace

A couple weeks ago I decided to finally create a spell jar. Specifically to help me deal with explosive anger from: anxiety, being a mom and a wife, needing to deal with other people on a daily basis, and other triggers. 🤷‍♀️ So I created this out of mostly things from my spice rack and have kept it in an inconspicuous place in my apartment and it's been extremely helpful.

                 Anger Management Jar

Well my family and I are getting ready to take a trip to Florida to see my in-laws and it's always a bit volatile, 😬 so I decided I wanted to make a mini version of my jar for the trip. Perhaps as a necklace?

Anyway...
I started by pulling out everything I wanted to use in my jar and gathering them in one area so I could cleanse everything. This step isn't strictly necessary but I prefer to start with a clean slate. Herbs and teas in particular have been through so much before they get to you and I believe natural substances are more prone to picking up and carrying vibrations. Obviously if you have a garden: 1. I'M SUPER JEALOUS! 2. Use that stuff, beautiful Earth Goddess! 🧙‍♀️💃

I always forget a few things here
                       but it's no big deal.

Pro tip: Don't stand directly over you're incense the whole time they're burning. 🤢

Once you're ready to go you can start layering in your ingredients. My layers were:
- ground eggshells
- ground black pepper and yellow mustard seed
- Earl Grey tea leaves
- bay leaf
- garlic clove w/ sigil
- yerba mate tea leaves
- lavender

I'm going to write another post about my indregients list and why I chose to layer them this way. But it would have been annoyingly long winded to include it here. So be sure to follow me if you want to see that. 😉

Garlic clove with a sigil,
because I can.

For these tiny jars a funnel is really a necessity but if you don't have one (or if you have 2 but also have a child so can't locate them if your life depended on it) you can always use a super high-tech rolled up piece of paper! This may actually be easier for the little jars because you can make it as small as you need to. I wish I could tell you if standard small funnels even FIT into these jars buuut...  I can't. 🤱🤷‍♀️

Where there's a will...

It's helpful to add your ingredients in pinches, it doesn't take much to fill these and once you're past the second layer it becomes hard to remove too much of something. I also find it helps to lightly tap the jar down on the counter so everything can settle and you can get it as full as possible.

Once filled cap with wax or glue. I knew I wanted to wear mine so I used E6000.

Okay... now what do I do with it?

Okay so... how do I wear this. You could wire wrap it and attach it to a cord or chain! But I never like the way my wire wraps turn out...

***Shameless Harry Potter Moment***

I'm going to Harry Potter World for the first time and I'm extremely excited. But, living in the Northeast, all my Hufflestuff is for fall weather. And I'm a warm human. So I wanted to incorporate some house pride into this thing while I was on a roll. I have lots of DMC thread so after finding the best match to my 'Puff scarf, I proceeded to Pintrest to watch many, many macrame videos.

Once I had an idea where the heck I was going with this I got to knotting...

I feel like I'm at summer camp... 🙃

This was time consuming but I love the way it turned out. And once I got into a rhythm it was very relaxing. You can make it tight and you won't really see the threads on the inside and you will need more thread but you will also have a more durable result. I wanted something flexible and for the yellow to show through under the black so every few knots I would run my nails over the knots I'd made to loosen them up.

Once I had these to the length I wanted my jar at, I tied all the strings together in a big knot. Then I started the cage. There are several techniques (and videos on all of them) for this. If you search for diy macrame planters or essential oil holders there are some great tutorials. I went with a fairly easy design.

Isn't she cute?!

You can always embellish this by adding beads or a pendant into the design. Lava beads on the necklace would be fantastic for adding essential oils to it. I just put some Cardamom EO on the cork and it's been diffusing the scent nicely.

I'm HufflePUMPED!

I'm very happy with how it turned out! Thank you so much if you made it this far! I'm hoping to write another post about my ingredients for this soon and future projects once I return home! So please follow if you want to see any more.

Blessed be crafty babes! 🧙‍♀️💃
